State Reps. James DeSana (R-Carleton), Joseph Fox (R-Fremont), Mike Hoadley (R-Au Gres), and Steve Carra (R-Three Rivers) hosted the “Michigan Defenders of the 2nd Amendment” event on the east steps of the Michigan State Capitol.
The gathering featured remarks from the lawmakers alongside representatives from Women for Gun Rights, Michigan Open Carry, and Great Lakes Gun Rights. Together, they reaffirmed their shared commitment to protecting and defending the constitutional rights of law-abiding gun owners across Michigan.
“Today we launched an effort to help restore rights protected by the Constitution,” said DeSana. “Michigan Defenders of the Second Amendment brings together a broad coalition of Gun rights groups and legislators who are passionate about protecting our right to self-defense.”
“Women are the fastest growing demographic of gun owners, and today they were welcomed and heard at the inaugural meeting of Michigan Defenders of the Second Amendment,” said Marcy Jankovich, Michigan State Director of Women for Gun Rights. “Women for Gun Rights is pleased to be in the fight, taking a stand with other Michiganders standing for the Second Amendment.”
During the event, the legislators highlighted ongoing efforts in the House to strengthen and preserve Second Amendment freedoms. Among these initiatives are proposals to reform Michigan’s red flag laws and to advance constitutional carry legislation, ensuring that responsible citizens can exercise their right to bear arms without unnecessary government barriers.
“Our constitutional right to bear arms has been under attack,” said Fox. “We need patriots to take a stand and demand action to maintain our rights to hunt, self-protection, and to defend ourselves from tyranny. We are going to fight hard in this uphill battle to stand for the Second Amendment, and we need people to join with us until we see real progress. Today was just the beginning of a new battle here in Michigan!”
“This is a great opportunity to bring legislators, patriots, and firearm groups together to talk about how to defend our constitutional rights,” said Hoadley. “We are in this together, and we need to work together to inform the public and dispel the fearmongering about legal firearms. I have drafted and introduced as many pro-second amendment bills as almost anyone, and that’s because this cause is important to me and to everyone who came out to make their voices heard today.” The “Michigan Defenders of the 2nd Amendment” event highlighted a growing commitment among lawmakers and citizens alike to preserve Michigan’s strong tradition of responsible gun ownership and individual liberty.
